We were stuffed with protein this morning in an attempt to energize us for the most difficult tasks of the week. Batch after batch of cement was mixed. Luckily, we had some man-on-machine action to help us out.
Today was more of a slow day for many. Some were tired. Some were sick. All were moving forward, regardless. The gazebo shell is taking shape. The rock wall is on its way to having steps. The brick wall is ready to be stabilized by cement. Sam slept. And on the seventh day, God rested. Whereas the St. Paul's mission team chose day four to do their resting. I use the term "'resting" loosely, as to say there were no walls built today. We did, however, hike around Valley of Angels and play FUTBOL! with Alonso Movement children (Frances is slightly concussed from head-butting her own teammate). If you are reading this, there is a good chance someone here is missing you and bought you a hammock. Hunter still needs a haircut (that's on you, Mrs. Rita!). Renee bought some fancy pants to match Amanda. Today was by far the hottest day we have had. Many are weary and sunburned. There were no clouds to cover us today, but we trekked on. Ollie, ironically, used a Bosche handsaw to cut wood patterns for a gazebo. It has been predicted that said gazebo will be finished before our day of departure. Our rock wall is nearing completion thanks to the manliness of two young, strong teenaged boys (and possibly a little help from some Dads). Todd and Jose Luis FINISHED the brick wall of the children's play area with help from Frances, Renee and Barry. Renee and Frances also assisted Ollie with her woodwork. Also, Frances and Todd matched today in their lovely Hawaiian shirts. Barbara is so proud. That's right, y'all! We made almost as many walls as we did friends! We had a wonderful time. Let me tell you, someone is going to change his profession when he gets home! Update: Ollie cried again. Sam slept again. Richard is wearing camouflage crocs. Good night to all, and God bless. What a wonderful experience this first day has been! Sam has fallen asleep in multiple places (it's almost impressive the niches in which he can sleep). The children are wonderful and are accepting us with open arms. Ollie's spanish is improving and she cried during the church service this morning. I was impressed with the children's dance abilities. They sure busted some moves for us. Renee tried the rope swing (I use the term "rope swing" loosely). The kids used some art supplies after lunch and painted more porch than they did paper. Amanda is an inspiration and an amazing translator. Todd's spanish has NOT improved. Richard is rushing me to finish (it's almost devotional time, and he is leading)! Hunter still has not combed his hair. Mr. Barry sure is creaming some 8-year-olds in soccer (which is saying a lot). We watched the World Cup entirely in spanish (Alemania!). More to come later including pictures. How great is our God? |
